Dr. Williams, Mattawan’s new Early Childhood Education Center leader, is so committed to building relationships with students, he prefers a mobile desk in the hallways so he can be highly visible, interact with students, and create an approachable atmosphere. Dr. Williams is often seen rolling his “Kit Cart” through the hallways, and being present for our little Wildcats. “My favorite part of the day is their arrival to school, welcoming kids and seeing families begin a new day of possibilities,” said Williams. “Saying ‘Good Morning’ and seeing their smiling faces is the best part of my day.” These young “Kit-Cats” love to visit their principal. A positive relationship with the school principal can help young students feel more connected to their school community and foster a sense of belonging.
Bright Beginnings, A Message from Our Principal
Welcome to Mattawan Early Childhood Education Center! I am so pleased to be the principal at Mattawan ECEC. I am coming back to the west side of the state from Sandusky, MI. I graduated from Paw Paw High School in 1997. My wife and I, along with our two dogs Rocco and Thunder, are excited to move to the area and become Wildcats!
My passion for early childhood started when I was in college and did a placement in a Kindergarten classroom. After that experience, I just knew I wanted to teach Kindergarten. After trying out some other grade levels early in my career, I finally was placed in a Kindergarten classroom. I loved it! I taught Kindergarten for 14 years. I had a ton of fun and enjoyed all the different aspects of five year olds. Then, I decided to become principal at Sandusky Elementary School. It was great to work with so many students both younger and older. However, I missed my early childhood roots, and I think Mattawan ECEC will be the perfect blend of my love of early childhood and experience as a principal.
I love learning and I am a lifelong learner. My college experiences include a Bachelors from Hope College, a Masters from the University of Phoenix, an early childhood endorsement from Saginaw Valley State University, and a Doctorate in early childhood from Oakland University. I hope to use my education to help students have the best experience at Mattawan ECEC.
I can’t wait to meet all the students, families, and the Mattawan community members. I can tell that Mattawan is a great place to live, work, and play. Please reach out to me anytime!
